Bizhub Konica Minolta in the UK

Since returning from South Africa 2 months ago I can finally say I’m back in shorts and able to wear our smart white kit without getting splattered with mud and rain!! Now am just getting splattered by greenfly!! I’ve been racing a bit with the guys in weekly circuit races and have taken to mountain biking after being brainwashed by the guys in Bloemfontein!!

I raced my first race last weekend after a month of doing a bit round the trails in Dalby Forest where the recent world cup took place. The technique is there but the head is taking a lot more convincing, I have adopted what I call the ‘right foot syndrome’ where my right foot automatically clips out whenever anything scary comes along. Didn’t help that my first attempt at a drop off round a bend resulted in me ending up half way down the bankside on my neck, looked like a huge love bite for a few days which was quite amusing!!

The race was a local event round a 4-mile circuit for around 2 hours. I was more nervous about holding up people through the single track woods but luckily a large amount of the route was over fields, tracks, through streams and down some rocky descents. The ground was bone dry and it was a barmy 27c, could have been back in South Africa!! I moved up through the field of guys, let whoever was near through the woods then passed them on the tracks again! Have to say it was such a hard workout but great fun. My technique seemed to get a bit better through the woods till the last lap… I think I got so tired I kept falling over on the soft moss, it seemed easier than staying upright!! I got 1st woman though the only other woman in my ‘sport category’ (20-29yrs) was a baggy shorts rider, more importantly I was mid way with the guys and even more importantly I really enjoyed it and leant a load from other riders. The next in the series is round the world cup course in Dalby which I think I’ll give a miss, far too many rocks and scary drops and at the same time there is a long endurance event in the Yorkshire Dales which sounds far more appealing! I’ve got some European races coming up with GB in June which I’m really looking forward too and which is good prep for our nationals…
