Easter Weekend: Family and Fun Jade Roberts
After the ‘hype’ of the Pick ‘n Pay Argus, it’s been pretty quiet for the month
and April. I have stayed in Cape Town for a while, which makes it that much harder
for me to leave home haha.! Other than having two weeks off the bike, I have been
keeping kindda busy with family outings, hitting the gym and catching up on reading
: )
I have been trying a new form of gym training, plyometrics- a type of exercise training
designed to produce fast, powerful movements… and gosh, all I can say is ouch.!
But my body is now used to that sort of jumps and movements that I incorporate it
into my training 2-3x a week.
Last Weekend saw my family and I headed to the Eastern Cape, East London, for the
long weekend. I don’t get to see much of my family so it was a great opportunity
to spend some time together without having to bring the bike along.! I was really
hoping for good weather, as the Eastern coastline is so beautiful, the water warm
and the sea so clear it feels like you’re in the Maldives.
With luck on our side the weather turned out to be awesome, actually very hot.!
We hit Cintsa beach for one day and then headed to the mountain trails of Hogsback
Nature Reserve, a two hours drive from EL. We followed the hiking trails through
the scenic rainforest that was 5km long, our reward at the end of it was a swim
in the Madonna and Child Falls…. Totally amazing.!
I am now in Cape Town… ready to leave for Johannesburg on Thursday. The racing program
looks to be busy and I will race the Wilro 100 cycle Challenge on Sunday. From there
on the team is busy with mountain bike and road races every weekend till the end
of May. June will then either be a month off or a month in Europe doing a few races
there before hitting the States for Super Week.! I’m excited :D
Ciao for now,
