01 December 2011 No better way to finish the season
Team bizhub finished their season on a successful note winning the overall ladies elite category in the Omnicane Southern Tropical MTB Challenge ...
Cape Town training week leading to the Argus Jade Roberts & Jennifer Hohl
Shoe… what a weeks it’s been.! I can honestly say that it really has ‘flown by’.!
Its not everyday you get to cycle with the Swiss National Champion… so having Jen
stay with me for the past week has been ‘SUPER AWESOME.!’
Training wise, we had a steady, hard week… putting in 2-3hr rides each day. We have
been training the Argus route to familiarize ourselves with the road and certain
points of the race that will play a major factor. With Jen being a ‘newbie’ to the
Pick ‘n Pay Argus Cycle Tour… we did Chapmans Peak and Suikerbossie a few times
as this is where the ‘hammer gets put down.!’ Its not an easy race, so the person
who can hang in there with the men and is the strongest on the day is going to win.!
Our training rides are never ever boring I tell you.! hehe.! We were riding through
Sea Point on Wednesday when I dropped money outta my pocket. I turned round to go
pick it up, when a truck stopped in the middle of the road, stopped traffic to hand
me my money. Hahaha… pays of to be ‘extremely hot chicks.!’ :P Sunday was the same…
we were in Simons Town when Jen almost hit the tar when her chain slipped. We did’n
want our hands dirty, so there we are looking at each other with ‘I’m not getting
grease on my hands, you do it looks’. Two kind young boy suddenly appear, ask if
we need help.? Jen and I say “no, no we’re okay thank you… We just don’t want our
hands dirty.” He then puts the chain on for us and walks off… We just laughed.!
Damsels in distress.! :p I almost had a very bad accident going through Kalk Bay.
Traffic is very bad through there at the moment due to road works, so cars stand
waiting in traffic until it’s their turn to go. Jen and I did’n wanna wait, so there
we are ‘zipping’ through traffic, when suddenly a door opens.! OMW… I almost had
a very nasty crash.! But thank goodness I was paying attention, Jen was kindda late
on her ‘Jadey…!!!!’ haha
Other than training everyday (and the interesting stories)… the weather has been
so hot here.! Its very unusual for Cape Town to have NO wind…! I was very reluctant
to come home early as the wind makes training very difficult, but I ate my words…
no wind to speak of, well, wind that blows you off your bike that is : )
Then the next most important thing that we have been up to is… shopping shopping
shopping.! It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we went to the Waterfront,
the sky was so clear that you could see Table Mountain in the back ground…! So beautiful
to live in the Mother City.! I am very lucky, as it feels like I’m on holiday everyday
hahaha : ) Treating ourselves to a ‘spa day’ was also very relaxing.! Had a neck,
back massage with a pedicure on Thursday (after doing 3hrs) always makes for a happy
girl which means a happy cyclist : ) Well… we totally loved our day of ‘pampering…!
The team arrive on Thursday morning… look forward to seeing the girls. It’s so weird
not seeing them as we have been in each others company a lot during the season.
Then suddenly not being around them is very strange… its too quiet.! : ) We then do
some light rides on the Argus route together, interviews and most importantly resting.!
I’m praying for a successful race on Sunday… for everyone racing, hope you achieve
your goals and you enjoy being on your bikes… maybe we see you on our second lap…?
